How to Get Your Talented Dog into Commercials

Of course you think your Dachshund or Bull Terrier is the cutest thing since the beginning of time. Why wouldn't you? He's part of the family and he does all those cute things to make you laugh and smile and you may even have thought he should be one of those dogs in those TV commercials. A lot of people feel the same way about their dogs. However, it's not an easy thing to do and you really need to be serious about it.

First thing you need to decide is whether or not you are truly willing to put in all the effort it will take to get him in commercials. You will need to have a schedule that will allow you the time it will take for auditions and going on location if need be. This is a big commitment.

You will also need to be honest with yourself, and ask yourself if you really believe that your dog truly has the personality that people who make commercials are looking for. Is there something that you dog does consistently that draws people to him? Does he have any unique qualities that simply makes him stand out in a crowd of other dogs?

You also need to figure out if your dog is aggressive. Some dog breeds might be more aggressive towards others and other dogs in a setting filled with actors, other animals, camera people, directors, etc. If this kind of confusing atmosphere doesn't affect your dog, then he might be suited to work under those kinds of conditions.

You dog also needs to be able to follow simple, basic commands without a hitch. He needs to be able to follow them the very first time they are given and not after two or three times of telling him to do something like sit or down. If you have not trained him to do simple commands then you might want to consider getting him trained by a dog trainer before going any further. After all, directors are looking only for animals that follow directions easily and without any hassles.

If you think you dog has it all after all of these considerations then you might want to create a video or videos of your dog obeying commands, doing some clever tricks or even make up an acting scene in which your dog is the star actor. Then you can put these on You Tube for example. If you find that the video or videos start getting a lot of hits and becomes a popular video on You Tube then you might be able to convince advertisers that your dog is worth giving a shot at promoting their product.

You will also need to get in touch with a talent agent that works directly with animals and promoting their talents. There are a lot of agencies out there but you need to make sure that their specialty is for animal actors. You will also need to get some professional photos done of your dog so that he has a portfolio and this should also include video as well. These things must be given to the talent agent and from this he or she will decide whether or not your dog is worth representing.
